Description
"Stonehenge" is a work written for intermediate students to explore the joy of solo horn playing and to promote sound projection.
This work uses modes, a cylindric key structure and beginner techniques such as grace notes, trills and half valve air blowing.
Celtic style dances are used to retain the character and style of the piece.
Stonehenge, an ancient monument believed to be a spiritual connection between people and the elements.
1. Druid Song
Aligned with the seasons it is regarded as a place of worship by the Druids, they sing their song.
2. Solstice
Celebrating the Winter Solstice (Shortest Day) and dancing to the Summer Solstice (Longest Day)
3. Equinox
Festivals for the Autumnal equinox and the Vernal equinox.
"Stonehenge" was awarded "Highly Commended" in the inaugural British Horn Society Composition Competition.
